Shortly before the morning shift. I sip my coffee, and in my ears the chimes of messages ring — from the one I want to give the rest of my life to. Smiles, hearts, ordinary words, and a video… a video in which I, maybe not entirely on purpose, caught a glimpse of life in that country. Yes, it’s far away, a life I don’t know, and surely it has its darker sides… but now I saw only the beauty.
A simple life. The smiles of passersby. A man walking, smoking his cigarette… that lightness we seem to have forgotten here. I don’t know… in the village it used to be like that. Sometimes I felt it — in the people, even when they worked hard, they carried happiness. Maybe long ago… when I was still a little boy.
Why is it now everywhere just pressure for productivity, dealings below dignity, desire without depth? We have a life of luxury, yes… I hope you are happy.
And me? Today I won’t say I would trade it. I will trade it. For an ordinary life that lets me breathe… and for love.
