Conquering the Heart

I’m listening to an old song, and its lyrics, together with the reality of my life in recent days, make me reflect. Today’s thought is a happy one—perhaps with a trace of sarcasm.

We humans have always been great warriors. Tirelessly fighting to reach our goals. Long ago, we gave our lives without hesitation for the plans of our lords. Brave, admirable… no… what matters is the “without hesitation.” We don’t think, we act—and that is how we live… me included. Everyone believes it’s the right way, so why not.

And we apply this same version to every part of life. Even to love. We are like trout, endlessly swimming upstream. Endless kilometers of life… but no—someone long ago built a wall there. A wall we cannot overcome. Yet we keep trying… wouldn’t it be better to let ourselves drift downstream, like on a waterslide, and rest our fins behind our heads?

We fall in love and we attack… But this is not a castle, gentlemen… and even if you conquer it, it will stand empty. And will we conquer it? No… because that castle has long ago given the keys to its secret doors to someone else. You fight on, and inside something is already blooming… you fight on, and the entire castle vanishes into another dimension. Why? Because you are not the one who decides that reality. You are not the one invited into it.

I’ve come to understand this now. Proud, perhaps, of my progress after thirty-eight years. Or maybe not… because this realization has nothing to do with my brilliance. I was invited in, given the keys to the secret doors, and for all those other warriors, the castle simply disappeared. Only then did I understand how beautiful it is—to be the one who is chosen, naturally, without a tournament…
